Sindh govt put all departments on high alert amid forecasts of heavy monsoon rains
Parts of Karachi received light rain and drizzle on Saturday afternoon as the Meteorological Department forecast more showers and thunderstorms across the city over the next two days.
Light drizzle was reported in some areas, while light rain fell in others, including Surjani Town, Gulshan-e-Maymar and the city’s suburban localities. The showers brought cooler temperatures and pleasant weather across the city.
The Meteorological Department said the sky over Karachi was likely to remain mostly cloudy over the next two days, with thunder and light to moderate rain expected during this period.
The department had earlier forecast windstorms and thunder accompanied by light to moderate rain during the afternoon and evening hours.
Officials said a severe low-pressure system, or depression, that had been active has since weakened into a low-pressure area, now positioned over southeastern Rajasthan in India. This weather system continues to draw monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, affecting the upper and central parts of the country, while a separate system of westerly winds is influencing the northern regions.

According to the Meteorological Department, these weather systems could continue to bring thunder, windstorms and rain to various districts of Sindh, cautioning that heavy rainfall in some areas may also trigger urban flooding.
The department also noted that rain accompanied with strong winds, windstorms, and thunder, was likely in Tharparkar, Mithi, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Larkana, Sukkur and surrounding areas over the next three to six hours

The Sindh government put all relevant departments on high alert amid forecasts of heavy monsoon rains and possible emergencies across the province.
Adviser to the Chief Minister on Rehabilitation Gyan Chand Essrani directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Rescue 1122 and mobile health units to remain on round-the-clock alert, ensure continuous monitoring and respond swiftly to any emergency situation.
PDMA Sindh also deployed 50 special response vehicles equipped with dewatering pumps across the province. Of these, 10 were allocated to Karachi, 25 to Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas divisions, and 15 to Sukkur and Larkana divisions.
