Government institutions have stepped up scrutiny of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman's family members and close associates, with the FIA, NAB and Capital Development Authority (CDA) issuing notices in separate inquiries involving alleged financial irregularities, illegal construction and recruitment violations.
Meanwhile, Opposition leaders on Wednesday gathered at the residence of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad to discuss the imposition of emergency and governor's rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, among other matters.
A statement by the JUI-F at night said that opposition leaders in the National Assembly and Senate, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, respectively, along with key PTI leaders, were attending a meeting to discuss "the situation of emergency and governor's rule" in K-P.
Separately, the FIA and CDA have issued notices to Amanullah, another close associate of the JUI-F chief and owner of the house in Islamabad where Fazlur Rehman resides.
In another development, NAB has summoned former federal minister for communications Asad Mahmood, Fazlur Rehman's son, over alleged irregularities in the appointments at the Pakistan Post Office during his tenure in 2022 and 2023.
NAB Rawalpindi has directed Mahmood to appear before its investigation team on November 10, 2026.
According to the NAB notice, the Establishment Division had authorised recruitment against 3,938 posts at the Pakistan Post Office, but 4,252 people were allegedly appointed. The inquiry has also flagged appointments against 2,646 abolished posts, allegedly in violation of cabinet committee directives.
NAB maintains that despite recommendations for contractual recruitment through a testing agency, a large number of permanent appointments were made, potentially placing an additional financial burden on the department.
