The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Saturday said that two specialists from Shifa International Hospital “participated in the ophthalmological assessment” of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
According to a press release issued by PIMS, Imran was brought to the institute in Islamabad, “during the intervening night of August 20 and 21 for medical examination and treatment.” It was as part of this examination process that the former prime minister was seen by the Shifa International specialists.
“Other examinations were carried out by the concerned PIMS specialists,” the institute said.
It added that the “clinical input arising from the ophthalmological assessment was taken into account alongside the findings of the investigations conducted at PIMS.” In accordance with this, a medical board, comprising doctors of PIMS, consolidated the medical fitness report, it said.
“In keeping with patient privacy and the directions of the Honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan, PIMS will not disclose the confidential clinical contents of the medical report,” the press release concluded.

The statement came after the SC ordered on Tuesday this past week that Imran be moved to Shifa International Hospital for treatment for the next few days. The court had also directed the government to arrange weekly meetings between him and his family.
The court further ordered that Imran’s personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, be granted access to him and directed the formation of a medical board comprising an eye specialist, a general physician, and a cardiologist along with Dr Sultan.
Meanwhile, the government had filed a review petition before the SC, calling the order “discriminatory in nature”.
After reports emerged late Thursday night that Imran was being transferred from Adiala jail to Shifa International Hospital shortly after midnight on Friday, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar revealed on Friday that the former prime minister had been taken to PIMS rather than Shifa International, where he was medically examined, and returned to Adiala Jail after being declared medically fit.

According to Tarar, Imran was taken to PIMS instead of Shifa “in view of the security situation created by PTI workers on the route to and outside Shifa Hospital”, adding that doctors from Shifa were also present during the examination.
After the revelation, the former Dr Uzma, Imran’s sister, addressing a press conference, revealed that she had met her brother, who had told her that he was being subjected to “severe injustice and torture”.
