Govt to abolish 60% vacant accounts posts

ISLAMABAD:

The federal government has decided to abolish 60% of vacant permanent posts in the federal accounts system, with the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) directing relevant officers to initiate the process.

According to directions issued by the CGA, posts that have remained vacant for at least one year have been recommended for abolition in light of a decision taken by the federal cabinet on August 27, 2024. The directions clarify, however, that vacant posts allocated for transfers, postings and promotions will not be abolished. The abolished posts will be deducted from the quota allocated for initial appointments or direct recruitment, according to the instructions.

All Financial Accounting Offices (FAOs) must review or prepare their vacancy rosters according to the decision. The FAOs have also been instructed to process promotion cases accordingly. The communication containing the directions was issued with the CGA’s approval.

The CGA is the premier accounting office of the Government of Pakistan. It is entrusted with the task of producing accurate and timely financial statements for the federation.
