ISLAMABAD:
DPM/FM Ishaq Dar on Friday expressed deep concern over recent regional tensions and underscored the importance of dialogue, restraint, de-escalation by all sides, and sustained diplomatic engagement to achieve lasting peace and stability.
Dar met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic, according to a press statement.
The DPM emphasized the need to build on the understandings reached under the Islamabad MoU of June 2026.
Dar also called for the United States and Iran to return to diplomacy based on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which was signed by Washington and Tehran in June.
During the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed the close and longstanding ties between Pakistan and Iran and reviewed the evolving regional situation.
Foreign Minister Araghchi appreciated Pakistan’s continued diplomatic support and constructive efforts in promoting regional peace and security.
He also thanked Pakistan for facilitating the safe return of Iranian fishermen and crew members, including those from vessels interdicted by the US, and for its close coordination with the Iranian, US, and other relevant authorities to ensure their safe transit through Pakistan and return to Iran.

Dar met with Chinese FM Wang Yi on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting here.
The two leaders held a warm and productive exchange of views on bilateral relations, regional developments, and cooperation within multilateral forums.
He thanked Yi for appreciating Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for regional peace and stability, as highlighted during his remarks at the SCO Council of FM.
