Tarar decries ‘political, terror crime nexus’ in K-P, asks provincial gov to maintain law, order

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Friday that there was a “political, terror crime nexus” operating in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in which illegal gold mining, timber and tobacco trade were used to finance and facilitate terrorism, further stating that it was the responsibility of the provincial government to maintain the law and order situation.

In a televised message, Tarar said that the provincial government of K-P was not only oblivious to the situation in the province but was also reluctant to take measures to maintain law and order. “The law and order situation in K-P is evident to everyone”.

“There is a political, terror crime nexus in K-P in which illegal gold mining, timber and tobacco trade are used to finance and facilitate terrorism. This is a collaborative effort where their political people are at the front, and through this illegal mining and awarding of contracts, they fund and facilitate terrorists, which explains why they are reluctant to stop terrorism”.

He stated that the provincial government had adopted an “evasive policy” towards the law and order situation in the province and was also “facilitating” terrorists. “Terrorists have attacked all political parties, yet the PTI remains a favourite of the terrorists, and the party has avoided condemning terrorists or taking action against them”.

The minister stated that “facilitating terrorists” was part of PTI’s policy and that it was the “B-team of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and the C-team of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan (TTA)”.

“Sohail Afridi, in words and in his actions, seems more like a commander of the TTP than a chief minister,” Tarar remarked.

Tarar underlined that PTI had never expressed “solidarity” with the personnel of the security forces or condemned terrorist attacks, including during the recent attack on Kohat by drones launched from Afghanistan and firing on Kurram on the Frontier Corps from Afghanistan. “The chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, his cabinet, and the entire Tehreek-e-Insaf provincial government are cowards and facilitators of terrorists”.

Tarar stated that it was this cowardice that had resulted in PTI backing down from its long march on September 27. “If you have courage, then come and do your dharna. I have visited K-P and know that they have no preparation”.

Tarar added that law and order was a “provincial subject” and that it was PTI’s responsibility to bring the law and order situation in the province under control. “There have been 2,456 terrorist attacks in 2026 alone, and this amounts to 10 attacks per day. In these attacks, 472 personnel from the Rangers, police, FC and army were martyred, and over 1,500 individuals have been injured”.

The minister stated that when drones came from Afghanistan, representatives of the provincial government had “fled”, while the security forces bravely confronted the terrorists. “How can you call yourself a political party when you shake hands with terrorists?”

“The provincial government that does not want to stop terrorism and does not maintain law and order, because of which innocent people are killed, cannot be justified in any part of the world,” he remarked.

Tarar said the people, security forces and law-enforcement personnel were fully mobilised to eliminate terrorism, adding that the entire nation was rendering sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
