Google celebrates Pakistan’s 80th Independence Day with a special Doodle highlighting the national flag
Google has marked Pakistan’s 80th Independence Day by replacing its usual homepage logo with a special Doodle featuring the country’s green and white flag.
The temporary design shows the Pakistani flag moving amid cloud-like letters spelling out “Google”, giving the search engine’s homepage a distinctly national look.
Pakistan celebrates Independence Day on August 14 each year, commemorating the day in 1947 when the country gained independence from British rule and emerged as a separate nation.
The day is marked across the country with flag-hoisting ceremonies, official addresses, patriotic events and public celebrations, with streets and buildings decorated in the national colours.
Google is known for creating special Doodles to mark national holidays, cultural occasions, historic events and the lives of notable personalities around the world.
This year, the platform has continued the tradition by dedicating its homepage to Pakistan’s Independence Day. Users can click on the Doodle to explore information about the history of the country’s independence, as well as some of the ceremonies and public celebrations taking place across Pakistan.
The Independence Day commemorations include a 31-gun salute in Islamabad, speeches by the president and prime minister, and public displays of national pride, with people dressed in green and white and celebrating with flags, banners and decorations in cities across the country.
The Google Doodle offers a digital nod to the celebrations, allowing people in Pakistan and around the world to learn more about the significance of August 14 and the country’s journey to independence.
