Russia has been invited to participate in the G20 summit in the US, which will be held in December, according to a report on Wednesday.
“There is an invitation to participate at the highest level,” Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin told reporters, the Tass news agency reported.
He added that it remains unclear who will represent Russia at the gathering, noting that a decision is expected closer to the date of the event.
The summit is set to be held in Miami, Florida, on Dec. 14-15.
The G20 summit is an annual gathering of leaders from developed and developing economies to discuss the world’s most pressing challenges.
The last time President Vladimir Putin attended the summit was in 2019. Since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, subsequent international pressure, including an ICC arrest warrant, he has skipped the 2022 (Bali), 2023 (India), and 2025 (South Africa) summits, with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov or other officials representing Russia.
