At least nine people, including several children, were killed in a mass shooting in Erie, in the US state of Pennsylvania, authorities said on Saturday.
A gunman opened fire inside and outside a home before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, ABC News reported, citing authorities.
“This is one of the most difficult and heartbreaking scenes our officers and investigators have ever encountered,” Police Chief Rick Lorah said.
“The loss of life is devastating, and the circumstances we are working through are deeply disturbing,” he added.

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or the suspected gunman.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and investigators are working to establish the circumstances leading up to the attack.

Erie is about 188 kilometres north of Pittsburgh.
