PMD issues fourth tropical cyclone watch over east-central Arabian Sea

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued its fourth tropical cyclone watch after a depression developed over the east-central Arabian Sea, though it confirmed there is currently no threat to any Pakistani coastal area.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD)’s Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre, the weather system has moved north-northwest over the past 24 hours and was located near latitude 16.4°N and longitude 70.4°E, approximately 1,004 kilometres south-southeast of Karachi and about 400 kilometres southwest of Mumbai, India.

The department said the depression is expected to continue moving northwest across the east-central Arabian Sea over the next 24 hours.

PMD added that its Cyclone Warning Centre in Karachi is closely monitoring the system and will continue to update relevant authorities, including the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and provincial administrations in Sindh and Balochistan.

At present, the department emphasised that no Pakistani coastal area faces any cyclone-related risk.
