Former professional footballer Giuseppe Rossi has named a player he liked the most even over the Portuguese star forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
Rossi — who retired last year from the game — reignited the debate of the best players of all time, comparing Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The former Manchester United player named Lionel Messi his favourite player compared to the 39-year-old Ronaldo while speaking with the DAZN.
The 37-year-old Rossi — who also played for the Italian national team and its club Spal — was the teammate of Ronaldo and also faced against 36-year-old Messi during his career.
Rossi termed both the players very different in their game saying: “They both bring different things to the game, that’s why it’s so hard to compare them.”
“Ronaldo went from a winger to being the best number nine on the planet, scoring goals is all he cares about. Messi is a goal scorer but he facilitates and I appreciate that as a player who likes to come deep and get the ball.”
The former Newcastle United player also noted: “He’s a more cerebral player, Messi and therefore some people don’t understand that part of the game, right? Those who do appreciate it more.”
“So that’s why I lean more towards watching Messi play. It’s all about preference, it’s all about preference.”
Ronaldo is at the top of the list with the highest number of goals in the UEFA Champions League 141, with Messi trailing behind at 129.
