SHC hears plea on restoration of KU students union


KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) heard a petition regarding the restoration of the students union in the University of Karachi and sought a response from the petitioner on the reply of University of Karachi’s director legal on the issue.

KU director legal in his reply on behalf of the university said that the process of drafting rules and regulations for the student union elections was under way.

The Central Student Advisory Council of the university has prepared a proposed constitution which has been sent to the secretary universities. The court has also inquired from the Ministry of Universities and Boards about the steps taken to restore the students’ union. The court adjourned the hearing till August 15, seeking a response from the petitioner on the response of University of Karachi.

Speaking to media representatives, Nazim, Islami Jamiat Talaba Karachi, Abish Siddiqui stated that the 40-year ban on student unions is a serious violation of democratic traditions.

Criticising PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Abish said that Bilawal talked ad bout the youth in the entire election campaign, but he has deprived the youth of the right to choose their leadership in educational institutions.
