Former Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad launches new political party

Former Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has announced the launch of a new political party, just days after confirming his return to politics following a lengthy hiatus.

Speaking to journalists via video link, Dr Ibad emphasized the urgent need for strict accountability to combat corruption and ensure economic prosperity.

Having served as governor for 14 years, Dr Ibad has been residing in the United Arab Emirates since stepping down in 2016. He invited MQM-Pakistan leaders to join his new party, urging them to set aside past differences.

Dr Ibad warned that the current government has limited time to address these issues—a claim refuted by ministers who insist they will complete their five-year term.

This view aligns with a forecast by BMI, a Fitch Solutions company, which predicts the Shehbaz Sharif-led coalition government could face collapse within the next 18 months due to economic uncertainties.

Highlighting the “dangerous levels” of political and economic instability, Dr Ibad also pointed to the worsening security situation. He stressed the importance of holding not only corrupt elements but also those who fail to uphold merit accountable to prevent governance failures and steer the country towards stability.
