Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the upcoming first Test against Pakistan, set to begin on Wednesday at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Addressing the media, Hathurusingha emphasised that his squad is well-prepared to handle any challenge that Pakistan might pose. “We are ready for whatever challenge Pakistan throws at us,” Hathurusingha stated. “The Pindi pitch appears favourable for both fast bowling and batting. Considering Pakistan’s selection, we have also developed a strong contingent of fast bowlers.”

Hathurusingha highlighted the strategic inclusion of all-rounders Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who add depth to both the batting and spin departments. “We expected Pakistan’s wickets to be different from Bangladesh and selected spinners based on merit, not just conditions,” he explained.

The coach also praised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for providing excellent facilities that have helped his team prepare effectively. “We are pleased with our preparations and look forward to the challenge ahead,” Hathurusingha said.

In light of recent events in Bangladesh, Hathurusingha extended his condolences to those affected by the protests and expressed hope for a swift resolution.

Regarding his role as head coach, Hathurusingha reaffirmed his commitment to his current contract but remained open to any decisions the board might make about his future.

He acknowledged concerns over Bangladesh’s recent batting performances but remained optimistic, pointing to the potentially favourable conditions in Pakistan. He also praised Shakib Al Hasan’s improved fitness and form and expressed confidence in the team’s young fast bowlers.

Additionally, Hathurusingha welcomed Mushtaq Ahmed to the coaching staff, noting that his extensive global experience would be a valuable asset to the team.
