ATC grants bail to two PTI leaders


LAHORE:

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday granted post-arrest bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Dr Yasmin Rashid and Omar Sarfraz Cheema in a case of blocking roads and delivering a speech against institutions.

The court directed both the accused to furnish surety bonds of Rs0.5 million each for availing the bail relief.
ATC Judge Arshad Javed announced the verdict on the post-arrest bail petitions of the accused after the completion of arguments by both parties.

In addition, the court adjourned hearing of post-arrest bail petitions by Dr Yasmin Rashid and Omar Sarfraz Cheema in four cases till May 23.

Meanwhile, the anti-terrorism court (ATC) issued bailable arrest warrants for 11 activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for skipping a trial related to Jinnah House attack.

Accused Abdul Razzaq, Qasim Liaqat, Majid Rais, Aman Ullah, Maqbool Murad, Abad Amanat, Abdul Hadi, Latif Rafique, Mohsin, Zakir Ali and Yar Zaheer were on bail. The court directed the police authorities to ensure the presence of the accused on the next hearing on May 29, and also ordered the accused to provide fresh bail bonds before appearing in the court.

ATC Judge Arshad Javed conducted the trial proceedings of the Jinnah House attack case, during which the other accused were also presented.

During the proceedings, the prosecutor highlighted the absence of the accused, emphasizing its potential impact on the case proceedings, and requested the court to issue arrest warrants against them.

The Sarwar Road police had registered a case against PTI leaders and workers on charges of attacking Jinnah House during the May 9 riots.
