LAHORE: As teams prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, sources say that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to announce the Green Shirt’s squad for the mega-event “soon”.
The board will also reveal the squad for the national side’s tour to Ireland and the subsequent tour of England in May in a “day or two”, the sources claimed adding that an 18-member team will be announced for the upcoming matches.
The development comes as earlier in the day New Zealand announced their 16-member squad for the T20 World Cup.
It is to be noted that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has set the May 1 deadline for the teams to submit their squad for the mega tournament which is set to commence in June.
However, changes can be made till May 25. Any change after that will require the approval of the ICC.
With the Babar Azam-led national side set to leave for Ireland on May 7, the PCB is also likely to hold a brief camp for the national side before their departure.
The Green Shirts are set to play three T20Is against Ireland after which they will lock horns with England in a four-match T20I series.
After that, the Men in Green will fly off to the United States for the World Cup.
It is pertinent to know that the national side’s team management has recently gone major changes with the board bringing in South Africa’s Gary Kirsten and Australia’s Jason Gillespie as white-ball and red-ball coaches, respectively.
Meanwhile, former cricketer Azhar Mahmood will assume responsibilities as assistant coach for both formats.
