RAWALPINDI: The National Accountability Bureau on Monday backed out from continuing the trial of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in new Toshakhana reference following the Supreme Court verdict restoring amendments to the anti-corruption watchdog’s laws.

The development was witnessed during a hearing of the incarcerated premier’s bail petition in the new Toshakhana reference today.

The reference, related to a jewellery set gifted by the Saudi crown prince to the ex-prime minister and the former first lady, was referred to a special judge central by the accountability court.

At the outset of the hearing, the prosecutor representing the top accountability body said that the reference was out of the anti-graft watchdog’s jurisdiction after the restoration of the NAB amendments following the top court’s verdict last week.
